Exercise 1 | 4-2-1 (Fluid Timing)

4-2-1 is the best exercise, hands down, in training yourself to naturally move to the timing of the music.  I recommend you practice this exercise indefinitely.

With each song, first methodically move your body, in no particular order, to every 4, 2, and 1 beats of the music.  Practice filling the entire beat with movement, so you can feel and communicate each timing.

Once you have “calibrated” yourself to each timing, then fluidly play around between the timings, in all ways the music makes you feel.
